Episode 11: Eyes on the green tripartite

Denmark drew international attention in 2024 with the announcement of the Green Tripartite agreement between the government, the farmers’ representative organisation and the national society for nature conservation.

The first of its kind in the world, the Green Tripartite is an ambitious collaborative framework for the sustainable transformation of Danish agriculture. It includes a tax on greenhouse gas emissions from livestock farming and the conversion of 15% of farmed land into forests and nature.

In this episode of foodpod denmark, we ask: how positive should we be about the Green Tripartite and the future of agriculture in Denmark? Will farming still be an attractive and competitive business in the years to come?

In the studio are Lisbeth Henricksen, executive vice president at Seges Innovation, and Martin Scholten, European liaison advisor at Wageningen University and consulting advisor at Aarhus University.

Meet the experts

“There’s a huge focus in this political agreement on development and testing and documenting the technologies that are going to be implemented on farms. But first and foremost we have some technologies that are quite mature… These technologies need to be further documented for climate purposes.”

Lisbeth Henricksen, executive vice president, Seges Innovation

“I think the green tripartite is really an achievement. In the Netherlands, we don’t have such an agreement that is so widely supported… To be honest, I think we are now in a situation where the Netherlands can learn from Denmark. And not just the Netherlands, all the countries across the world can learn from Denmark.”

Martin Scholten, European liaison officer, Wageningen University & Research and Aarhus University
